Shortcuts to Phone, Email, Web
and Skype
Open Contacts can interact with Windows' telephony program, Emailer and
Web browsers etc. Field data will pass to these programs according to the
type or the action of predefined fields.
The Action button is a magic button that will change its appearance and
associated commands when a predefined data field is highlighted in an Edit
Contact window, or when a contact list window is activated.
Actions supported:
Open Contacts also supports
custom
actions which are implemented using Web URL query, EXE
program, Windows scripts or DLL programs.
When you click on a phone field, the Action button will change
for telephony. Clicking on the Phone button will result in launching Windows'
telephony program (Phone Dialer ) with the phone
number.

When you click on any data field of Email address, the Action button will change
for Emailing. Clicking on the Email button will create a new Email window with
the email address.

If the Email program to be used by Open Contacts is Microsoft Outlook, you will have more options of
adding Email addresses to Microsoft Outlook. For example, the
Email address could pass to the CC field of current Email item of Outlook.

You may also create Email to multiple contacts
selected in a Contacts List window.
When you click on any field of Web address, the Action button will change for
Web browsing. Click on the Web button will launch Windows' default Web browser
(MS Internet Explorer, Netscape or Mozilla Firefox) with the URL.

When a Skype field is selected, the Action button will allow you to start a
call or start a chat with the Skype name. Please make sure you have logon to
Skype.

Note: As the Skype functions were introduced since Version 2.8.1, if you are an
existing user of Open Contacts and want to keep existing database files, you
will need to create a predefined field named "Skype" or whatever name you want,
and associate this field with skype type and skype action.
