Open Contacts

Data Files

Open Contacts uses Firebird as database engine, which stores data in a FDB file. By default, your address book data is stored in "default.FDB", along with external file resources if you desire.

While the program is installed in the protected Windows Program Files area as shown below,

the data files is stored in the Windows User Profiles area by default as shown below, and the detail may vary depending your preference of installation.

The FDB files are stored in the Data directory.  There are two, one for your live database, and the other for the demo.

You might notice that in the program directory, there's a "default.FDB". This file is not used by Open Contacts. This is an empty database in case you need an empty database for fresh start in some situations.

The Files directory is the default location of linked files of contacts.

The Templates directory is for template files used by Open Contacts. While it is possible to modify these files to customize some features of Open Contacts, you need knowledge of XML, XSL and HTML. Though we provide such open architectures for you to do advanced customization, you should delegate your general questions of XML, XSL and HTML to internet newsgroups. We would answer only direct questions about the schema of Open Contacts' files.
